Preconsonantal nasals (-mp, -nch, -nd, -ng, -nk, -nl) appear at the ends of words and make subtle letter/sound consonant combinations.

The sound comes from air going through the nose into the mouth. The second consonant dominates, absorbing the first as in bump or sink.

Help K–2 students distinguish among preconsonantal nasal endings with an engaging printable phonics activity. This basketball themed activity invites primary students to “dunk” words with preconsonantal nasals into the appropriate baskets.
